“Motor Vehicle Crusher” means any person, firm, or
corporation engaged in whole or in part in the business of
purchasing and crushing or compacting motor vehicles and
selling the crushed or compacted vehicle for scrap.
Must
first obtain a Motor Vehicle Crusher’s license from the
Louisiana Recreational and Used Motor Vehicle Commission.
Requirements and
application.
Vehicle
acquired from individual: Individual must deliver
properly assigned title documentation to the Motor Vehicle
Crusher. Motor Vehicle Crusher must submit a
CRUSHED VEHICLE AFFIDAVIT to the Office of Motor
Vehicles. Disposal
of Junk Vehicles
Vehicle
received from Insurance Company: Insurance companies who
have settled claims from Hurricanes Katrina or Rita, must
within (30) days of crushing the vehicle submit a
CRUSHED VEHICLE AFFIDAVIT along with a proof of
loss statement to the Office of Motor Vehicles. For
financed vehicles a lien release is required.

Vehicle
acquired through Towing and Recovery Statutory
Requirements: Owner/Operator must follow Towing and
Recovery requirements to obtain ownership of vehicle by
the issuance of a Permit to Sell, or Permit to Dismantle
prior to crushing and submitting a CRUSHED VEHICLE
AFFIDAVIT. (See attached Disposal of Junk Vehicle
policy). Office of Motor Vehicles Policy and Procedure,

Permit to Dismantle Vehicle,
Application for Permit to Dismantle Vehicle, and
Policy #20.05 for
Disposal of Junk Vehicles.
Vessels
(Boats and/or Motors) acquired from individuals:
Individual must deliver the registration form as proof of
ownership, properly assigned to the Motor Vehicle
Crusher. Motor Vehicle Crusher must submit to the
Department of Wildlife and Fisheries on their letterhead,
a list of all vessels being crushed, with a minimum of the
year, make, model, and hull identification number along
with documented proof of ownership.

number along with documented proof of ownership/release to
insurance company.

Motor
Vehicle Crusher must maintain records of all vehicles and
vessels acquired and/or crushed for at least three years
from the date acquired and/or crushed. Such records to
include but not limited to year, make, model, body style,
vehicle identification number, hull identification number,
date purchased, purchaser’s name, address, date sold,
seller’s name and address, and copies front and back of
title documentation.
